Thrift Shop Renovations: A Canopy for All Seasons!

Our beloved Thrift Shop in the Old Firehall is getting a much-needed upgrade—a new canopy!

This canopy marks the final step in the Thrift Shop Addition Project, which started last year. It will offer protection from the sun, rain, and snow, making it easier for our volunteers to unload donations and display merchandise outdoors, regardless of the weather.

We have already had a rainy day to test it out, and both our volunteers and customers were thrilled with the results. A big thank you to our amazing volunteer crew!

UPGRADES TO OUR THRIFT SHOP

You may remember in June 2023, we celebrated the grand opening of our thrift shop extension. Before the expansion, our volunteers didn’t have enough space to sort, clean, and display items properly, especially in the garage. We decided to expand the garage to create more room and winterize it so it could be used year-round.

We were fortunate to receive funding from the Government of Alberta’s Facility Enhancement Grant, a matching grant program that allowed us to use both the grant and our own savings to complete the project. A dedicated team of Seba volunteers worked hard over the entire summer to create a fabulous space. Their efforts resulted in a more functional and spacious thrift shop!

MORE IMPROVEMENTS TO COME!

We’re also planning ahead for more improvements. We’ve applied for another grant to upgrade our kitchen and hall, which would include a commercial dishwasher, floor refinishing, new window covers, and fresh paint. Our goal is to repurpose these spaces while increasing storage capacity and give it a nice big refresh!

We hope to hear by the summer of 2025 if our grant application is successful.
