Seba Seniors Quilting Group Wraps Up a Cozy Fall Retreat

On the weekend of October 25th, our Seba Seniors Quilting Group gathered for a fun and relaxing fall retreat. Fourteen quilters from around the lake joined us at our center, bringing their projects, great food, and, of course, lots of laughs. These weekends together are something we always look forward to—a perfect mix of creativity, friendship, and a little bit of relaxation.

A Laid-Back Friday Night

We started off on Friday with everyone setting up their workspaces and settling into the weekend. Projects got underway quickly, and before long, we were sharing stories and laughter as we worked. For dinner, we took it easy with some pizza, salad, and a glass of wine to kick off the weekend right.

Saturday’s Full Day of Crafting and Amazing Food

On Saturday, people trickled in throughout the morning, but by 11:00 a.m., the room was buzzing. Some of us were working on our Christmas projects, happy to have lots of time to work on them.

A snack and coffee area kept everyone happy.. Our homemade lunch and dinner prepared by the incredible volunteer Peggy Ziegler were absolutely delicious—think zoupa toscana, fresh garlic bread, shrimp salad, and gluten free cookies. BBQ ribs with a blueberry cheesecake to wrapped up Saturday night’s dinner.

After our wonderful supper, some of us kept working on our projects, while others took the time to catch up and swap project ideas.

Wrapping Up with Sunday Brunch

We ended the retreat with a lovely Sunday brunch of savoury bread pudding and salad prepared again by Peggy. The last few hours flew by as we added final touches to our projects.  By mid-afternoon, we were packing up and saying our goodbyes, already looking forward to our next retreat.

A Quilting Group Testimonial By Cathie Duchesne, our Board President.

Our quilting group meets every week, and these twice-a-year retreats are a special treat. Sometimes, we focus on donations, like quilts for community causes; other times, it’s all about personal projects. One of the things we all enjoy so much about our quilting retreats is that it gives us an opportunity to share ideas and help each other.  There’s always someone there to lend a hand, share advice, or offer a fresh set of eyes.

When we moved here in 2006, I decided to join the local quilting group as a way to meet ladies who lived in the area.  I was a beginner quilter and everyone was so warm and inviting.  I took some courses at a quilting shop in Spruce Grove but really the majority of what I learned about quilting came from this group.  It’s the kind of place where everyone feels at home, whether you’re a new or experienced quilter. . We’ve learned so much from each other over the years, and the friendships we’ve built here are wonderful.

If you think you might be interested in learning how to quilt, I would like to encourage you to come to one of our meetings.  Each year we host our spring retreat and who knows, we might even plan a few outings or trips to local quilt shops. These trips are a lot of fun and give us a chance to explore, shop, and spend time together outside the center.

I would like to take this time to thank the amazing Peggy Ziegler for the lovely meals that she prepared for us.  We appreciate all the work you put into our weekend.  I would also like to say thank you to my co-quilters.  The constant support we give each other makes our weekly meetings and retreats so much fun.  Finally I would like to thank Seba Seniors for providing the wonderful space for our group. We are fortunate to have this support to have this group.   There’s just nothing like quilting with friends!
