Each month, we share Alberta Health Service’s Healthy Living Program.

Summer is here! Find tips in this summer newsletter for exercising in the heat, as well as some information about taking care of your liver.

What is Better Choices, Better Health®?

Living with a long-term (chronic) health condition can be hard. Better Choices, Better Health® is a free group workshop for adults who live with or support someone with a chronic health condition. Choose between one of two workshops:

  • Better Choices, Better Health® – Chronic Disease: for those with conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, arthritis, gastrointestinal (GI), depression, long COVID-19 and others.
  • Better Choices, Better Health® – Chronic Pain: for those with conditions like fibromyalgia, complex regional pain syndrome, persistent pain, migraines, arthritis and others.

These workshops can help improve your confidence by learning new self-management skills and to enjoy a better quality of life.

The Alberta Healthy Living Program offers free programs and services to Albertans. You may have access to:

Supervised Exercise – Alberta Healthy Living Program

Supervised exercise helps adults with chronic health conditions live an active lifestyle. These sessions are led by healthcare professionals and are tailored to meet individual needs and abilities in a safe and welcoming environment.

Nutrition Services

Registered dietitians play an important role in helping Albertans achieve their best nutritional health.

Working with individuals, families, groups, and organizations, Nutrition Services dietitians provide nutrition counselling and expertise to help Albertans enjoy good health, prevent and manage chronic diseases, and recover from illness and surgery.

Dietitians provide services in many settings, including acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, home care, supportive living and continuing care facilities, outpatient clinics, community health centres, and communities.
