Digital Divide

Have you heard of the “Digital Divide”?  This term refers to a significant issue for many seniors when they feel isolated due to a lack of digital skills.  It has created gaps in access to information and communication.  Because we are a generation that has not grown up in a digital world, we find it difficult to catch up.  To make the situation worse, anxiety and apprehension often prevents us from fully engaging with technology.  If we live in rural areas,  additional barriers of reliable internet connectivity limits our opportunities to engage with digital tools.  If we are able to access instruction, it is hard to find age-appropriate and user-friendly materials!

Seba Seniors Program Director, Diane Lucas, has decided to do something about the Digital Divide!  Using a small grant, she has hired a company to begin to develop and present a “Tech Series” of programs to help Seba Senior members and community members build their “Digital Literacy”, an essential set of skills in a digital world reliant on technology.  These programs will help people with the basics, to lay a strong foundation for developing further digital skills.  If they are well received, she plans to continue with the series in the future.  Stay tuned and sign up for the classes of interest to you!
