NOVEMBER IS FALL PREVENTION MONTH

Did you know that November is Fall Prevention Month? Falls are the leading cause of injury in Alberta. Although they can happen at any age, the risk of falling does tend to increase as you age. In fact, 1 in 3 Albertan seniors will fall each year. If you are concerned about falling, we can give you tips on how to lessen your risk of having a fall.

 

FALL PREVENTION WORKSHOPS 

Learn more about these free classes and workshops offered by the Alberta Healthy Living Program of AHS. Click on the class name to learn more:

  • Getting Up and Down from the Floor Safely  Join us on Wednesday, October 23 or Wednesday, November 27 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. for this physiotherapist-led class.
  • Better Choices, Better Health® – Chronic Pain  This six-week peer-led workshop goes over several chronic (long-term) pain management tools – amongst which is healthy sleep habits, pacing, and making medication lists. Join us on Friday, October 25, November 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 9:30 a.m. – noon.
  • Healthy Sleep Habits  Join us on Monday, October 28 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. for this occupational therapist-led class.
  • Better Choices, Better Health® – Chronic Disease  This six-week peer-led workshop touches on many chronic (long-term) condition management skills – amongst which are tips to prevent falls, effective breathing techniques, medications, and healthy sleep habits. Join us on Tuesday, November 5, 12, 19, 26, December 3 & 10 from 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Steady on Your Feet  Join us for this 2-part class on Tuesday, November 19 & 26 from 1 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. for this physiotherapist-led class to learn tips about how to prevent a fall, and what to do if you fall.
