August Sundowner Recap – Mead & Moonshine Tasting
Our August Sundowner was a wonderful evening of learning and tasting, with 39 members in attendance. We were delighted to welcome Des from Fuhr Estate Winery & Craft Distillery, located right here in our own backyard, as our host for the night.
Des brought along their full lineup of products for us to sample. We began with three Meads—Traditional Honey, Sour Cherry, and Saskatoon. The Saskatoon was the clear favourite, with the Traditional Honey coming in second. We also learned that Fuhr crafts their Mead and Moonshine with less sugar and more fruit, making them less sweet but full of rich flavour.
The Moonshine tasting was equally enjoyable, with samples of Apple Pie, Night Cap, Mint, and Cinnamon. Apple Pie and Night Cap topped the favourites list, while the Cinnamon reminded many of Fireball, though smoother and not as strong.
For those who would like to try more, Fuhr Estate products can be purchased at Sobey’s Liquor stores or directly from the distillery. Please note that walk-ins are not available—you’ll need to call ahead to arrange a visit. Tastings are also available for $10.00, which is credited toward your purchase.
