CONGRATULATIONS TO DENNIS PAUL!

Seba Seniors is pleased to announce that our nominee, Dennis Paul, has been selected to receive the Human Rights and Advocacy Award to be honored this year at the 2024 Okimaw Awards. Congratulations Dennis! We are honored and proud that you are our friend! Your award is well deserved and we are so glad we were able to nominate you. Another of our members said, “Congratulations to Dennis for being recognized in this way for your life work in justice and human rights….we need more Dennis’s in this world!

The founder of Okimaw Awards, Janice Randhile, has this to say in her acceptance letter:

As you know the Okimaw awards were created to honour, encourage, and recognize our men and all the warrior spirits who continue to contribute to the success of our peoples’ nations. Our men are the warriors who keep the hunt strong, and our nation’s nourished, they are the fire keepers who keep us warm and guide our spirits, they are teachers with generations-old knowledge, and they are essential to the success and wellness of our people.

Dennis’s many contributions and overwhelming spirit have not gone unnoticed. With his name being put forward in nomination is a testament to the impact he has made in the community and to the appreciation and gratitude for his selfless service. This nominee throughout his life has demonstrated cultural and moral integrity, a warrior that succeeded in achieving their sovereignty.

THE AWARD CEREMONY

The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Edmonton City Hall (City Room – Main Floor). Our Talking Circle committee is meeting soon to plan how Seba Seniors can support Dennis and Paul First Nation when he receives the award. We will definitely be driving to Edmonton as a group and encourage anyone in the community to join us. Watch for details in our next newsletter!
