CUSTOM-MADE DOLL CLOTHES AT SEBA SENIORS THRIFT STORE

The next time you visit the Seba Seniors Thrift Store, please take notice of the ever-changing displays.

The most notable is the table display upon entry, which changes with the season.  Less noticeable is the changing fashion display.  No…not the ladies’ party wear, or the men’s hat display.  We are talking about the doll clothes – the designer originals, the one-of-a-kind ‘couture’ pieces that are created by the Thrift Shop’s Co-Manager (and Seba Seniors’ Board member) Lynn Berg.

THE TALENTED LYNN BERG

Lynn has been an integral team member of the Thrift Shop for almost ten years.  She first joined the Seba Seniors in 2012 and is a permanent resident of Seba Beach.  An avid sewer (and Quilting Group member) she used to create many of her own clothes.  This skill easily transitioned to creating doll clothes for her granddaughters.   When they outgrew their dolls, Lynn realized that the creation of the doll clothes had become a bit of an addiction!

About six years ago, knowing that the 18-inch doll was the perfect size to sew for, she began to design and create once again. She began collecting items of donated clothing that were not ‘perfect’ enough for the Thrift Shop, but they were more than perfect for doll clothes for the Thrift Shop.  Many donated notions have also found their way to Lynn (although she does supplement with her own purchases as needed) to help with the creation of these beautiful outfits – thread, lace, appliques, buttons, and velcro are all welcome donations!

GREAT QUALITY, ORIGINAL DESIGNS AND LOW COST

The demand for doll clothes is constant, although it tends to peak in the summer months when the community grows with its seasonal residents.  The doll clothing costs are low, the quality is great, and the design aesthetic is commendable! While each outfit is an original, Lynn confesses to using patterns but restyling them frequently.

CUSTOM DESIGNED DOLL JEWELRY

Toni Yurkewich, the Shop’s other Co-Manager,  has even created a ‘line’ of doll jewelry, from donated but unsellable pieces!   Lynn has turned a hobby into a benefit for the Thrift Shop.  Lynn is truly creative and helps to keep items from entering the landfill.  The joy on the faces of the children who purchase these clothes is a great reward for Lynn and for the other Thrift Shop volunteers.

DO YOU HAVE GRANDDAUGHTERS?  BRING THEM FOR A VISIT!

We promise they will enjoy their time at our thrift shop!  Not only do we have the fun doll clothes but there is a fantastic book section they can visit and some fun clothes and jewelry displays where they might discover some fun finds!

Afterward, make sure to visit the Seba Beach ice cream shop for a treat!
