Paul First Nation Pow Wow – what a wonderful time!

On August 16th, 2024 weekend, 8 of our Seba Seniors members accepted an invitation from the Paul Band and got together to attend the Paul First Nation Pow Wow.  The Grand Entry is part of the pow-wow protocol. The host drum is asked to sing the Grand Entry song and the arena director organizes the staffs, flags, dignitaries, royalty, and dancers by procession. It was a moving and beautiful way to honor the participants of the pow-wow and to open the event.

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL SIGHT

All of our members who attended agreed that it was a well-run event.  There were several drumming groups representing communities from Canada and the USA, with each taking their turn in a competition.  Over a thousand dancers, again from many First Nations in Canada and USA participated.  The performers were in groups of different ages, genders, and categories of dance and they all came forward to fill the arbor in full regalia.  It was a beautiful and incredible sight.

IN MEMORY OF MICHELLE HOLLY RABBIT

The Paul family honored the memory of Dennis Paul’s daughter, Michelle Holly Rabbit, who died by homicide in July 2023, in a moving ceremony of drumming, dancing, and the telling of stories.  The ceremony ended in a fancy shawl dance, with all dancers wearing regalia in red and a giveaway to everyone in attendance.

All in all, it was a fantastic event and we would like to thank the Paul Band for the invitation.
